For those who have an ear to hear or an eye to see it should be evident that we are in a season of change, a season where the foundations upon which we stand are not only changing but changing rapidly. The advent of the technological revolution with it accompanying access to unprecedented amounts and sources of information make it possible like never before to witness,if not experience the events that are shaping and reshaping the world on a national and global level. However, not only are not able to witness the events that are reshaping the world around us on an unpresented level we are fortunately or unfortunately, (depending on your worldview) shaped by them. Regardless of
your world view, it should be clear that change is coming and whether we view the change as an opportunity to be embraced of situations to be avoided one thing should be clear, the change is coming and they are for the good or the bad going to impact every facet of society, including the Church!
As surprising as the changes to our culture, the economy, or government, the family, even our understanding of humanity may be to us they are not surprising to God,in fact many endtime theologians content that these changes are simply Bible prophecy coming to pass as God declared it, however, whether you or I believe that the events we are witnessing and the impact they have on society at large are the fulfillment of biblical prophecy or not one thing should be clear these events have not take God by surprise and I argue that if they did not take God by surprise they should not surprise us either. I would also argue that the shift that we speak of and many are sensing if not experiencing is part of God’s response to the changes we are experiencing in the systems of the earth. In Romans 8:22-23 the Apostle Paul declared “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” This groaning and travailing is the natural world’s response to the changes in the spiritual foundations upon which it rest, foundations that were put in place by the thrones, principalities, dominions, rulers and others that have been shaping the world since the fall of Adam and are now working to tighten their grip on creation to hinder or prevent the coming of the Kingdom of God.
But that is not all that is going on and for those with any level of spiritual sensitivity it is becoming increasingly that while the gods of this world are shifting the foundations of the world to tighten their grip, God is shifting the Church and calling it into its proper place. And that place is a place of worship. The place of worship is not a physical place, it is not a call to the places we call houses of worship, nor is it a call to sing, shout, dance, or pray, (as we know and think of them) although each of these activities may occur in the place of worship. The place of worship is not a physical place as we think of it at all it is a place of connection, of relationship, of understanding, it is a state of being. A state of being that is based on a mutual understanding of all the dimensions of our individual relationships with God and through God our relationships with the spiritual and created world. The place of worship is a place that is based first and foremost on an understanding of God, who He is as creator, and owner of everything, (including each of us) the sovereign, (the one with the legal right to do as He pleases) as righteous, (one whose actions are always just, right, best) the God who is wise, kind, good, loving, all knowing, always present, all powerful and secondly and understanding of who we are, His creation, His son/daughter, His representative, His handiwork. His possession, the object of His love, His imagine, His likeness, His agent in the earth, His spokesperson. It is a place where everything is not only shaped by Him but defined and ruled by Him. The place of worship is the place where we come to not only encounter Him but to learn of Him and through Him of ourselves, the place where we come to be shaped by Him. The place where we come to become who we truly are, and who we always were. The place of worship is the place where we discover our identity, come to understand and embrace our destiny, the place of worship is a place we enter but never leave, a place as real as the air we by breathe and the water we drink but yet unseen by anyone who has not entered in and unrevealed to only those who seek Him with an open heart. The place of worship is not a place of petition but a place of surrender, of presentation, a place where we eagerly lay all we have and all we are at the feet of God, not that we are not worthy but hopeful we will find acceptance through the mercy and grace of God. It is a place of shaping, of molding, a place of dying to our flesh while we come alive. It is a place beyond human notions of intimacy where there is no secrets, and no separating between us and God, it is the place where Kingdom begins, the place where truth is revealed the place where foundations are laid.
God is calling us into the place of worship not simply so we can serve but so we can truly live, live free from the burdens of this world and all the unmeasurable burdens we face from being a supernatural being trying to live a natural life based on standards that were designed to oppress and destroy us. Free from the plans and schemes of this world so that we can become the agents of divine change in the lives of those we are called to set free and draw to Him. God is calling us into the place of worship so that we can become Him instruments His stewards in the relaying of His foundations upon the earth and to serve as His agents of restoration of everything that was destroyed or marred by sin.
