A Biblical Teaching featuring
There are times when as I pray I see images of a great throne before me, a throne crafted out of the finest wood and trimmed in the purest gold. A throne so beautiful, so pure that the thought of it with my natural mind makes me tremble. This throne with all of its majesty and splendor in seemingly both within my grasp and beyond my reach as if the very attempt to touch it pushes it further and further away. When the vision of the throne first began to appear to me, I as I suspect others would, assumed that the throne was the seat of God, the place from which God ruled all of creation, the place where we or at
least, our spirits would come and bow down before Him. Honestly my belief that this was the throne of God seemed, as first glance, to fit quite nicely within the theological framework of the Church and was personally rather comfortable as I like so many other believers operated in a partial understand of biblical truth and prophecy believing that our prayers and our praise would if offered with an sincere heart satisfy our obligation to worship God. After all what better way to worship God than come before His throne and bow down in adoration, surely this must be the ultimate expression of our lives and our relationship with God. Even as I write this article the picture of bowing down before the throne of God creates such unbelievably beautiful images in my mind that my heart is overwhelmed with joy and splendor, however as I studied the word of God especially those portions of scripture relating to God’s throne I discovered that there was something about my image that did not line up with scripture. Namely that according to scripture, Jesus is always sitting at the right hand of God and God is always surrounded by angels praising and worshipping Him, but in my image the throne that was before me was always in a room by itself and God was not actually sitting on it and neither was Jesus. As I began to search scriptures it began to become clear to me that what I originally thought of as a heavenly vision was in fact a prophetic revelation, a revelation not of God’s throne in heaven, but rather my, our throne on the earth.
As I considered this revelation it became clear to me, that the prophetic revelation was a call to rule. A call to rule not for my own account but to rule on behalf of Jesus as His representative and His representation. In Genesis 1: 28-29 the Bible declares “And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of heaven and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.“ and it is this grant of dominion that gives us both the authority and the responsibility to rule. I realize that in many if not most in the Church the book of Genesis and the grant of dominion is seldom taught and poorly understood but it is nonetheless Man’s original and primary purpose in the earth and for the good or the bad is expressed through every single human being who has ever lived on the earth. In fact it was the grant of dominion that was the ultimate goal of the serpent’s corruption of Adam and Eve in the garden, without which he could have never established his kingdom on the earth, much less have become the god of this world and it was his desire to retain the dominion granted to him through Adam that resulted in his ill fated temptation of Jesus, ( the second Adam) in the wilderness. It was satan’s hope that Jesus would fall for the temptation as Adam did before him and in so doing give satan ultimate and eternal dominion over the earth. However, fortunately for us and all of creation Jesus did not fall for the temptation and did not surrender the dominion given to Him by the Father, because if He had His earthly ministry would not have been possible.
As I continued to study the word of God searching for a clearer understanding of this revelation I began to see the gospels in an entirely new light and I realized that Jesus’ entire earthly ministry was both an expression of His rulership as well as an instruction manual on how to respond to the call to rule. As we examine the details of Jesus’ earthly ministry we can clearly see how Jesus responded to the call to rule placed upon Him by God, how He exercised dominion over sin, sickness, demons, the weather, the laws of nature, social norms, how He exercised authority over religion, and even death. How everything in the earth was subject to His authority. As I examined the earthly ministry of Jesus what became increasingly clear to me is that the events recorded in the Bible about Jesus’ earthly ministry we performed by Jesus as a man nor as a God as an example of what the lives of those who followed Him, ( lived by His example) were to be like. In Romans 12 :1-2 where the Apostle Paul admonishes the Church “ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” the Apostle Paul is addressing the prerequisites to our rulership. In my vision there were moments where I found myself reaching for the throne, only to find it just outside my grasp, while at the same time finding myself being drawn closer to it. These moments represent the various shifts in my understanding or maturity when the spirit of the Lord led me to some understanding or to overcome some element of carnality which brought me one step closer to being transformed into the likeness of Jesus and as a result one step of being able to assume my position on the throne from which I was ordained to rule. With every step we take, every area of our lives we surrender we get closer and closer to answering the call to rule, one step closer to the fulfillment of our destiny, one step closer to representing Jesus in the earth, one step closer to the throne that was made for us. The deeper I push into this revelation the clearer it becomes to me that above all else we were called to rule and every other revelation we receive from God and every spiritual gift given to us by God is designed to bring us into the place of rulership with Christ and for Christ.
