Dr. John N. Chacha

OUR VISION

Our Vision for The Dr. John Chacha Secondary School and Institute of Leadership (DCSS) is to serve around 400 students on the Teamwork City of Hope (TCOH) campus in Ntagacha, Tanzania. We will provide them with the opportunity to continue to achieve the academic, physical and spiritual growth they achieved at Destiny Primary School (our TCOH primary school). DCSS will strive for excellence and prepare our students for post-secondary studies, either at university or vocational school, and/or for taking up their roles as leaders who walk with wisdom and understanding in their local communities and beyond.

This new secondary school will have several important collateral benefits. It will bring new hope to the local community for their children’s futures. It will keep young girls from being pressed into FGM (female genital mutilation) and child marriages. It will continue to teach the children of former enemy clans to become unified and work together.

This new secondary school will honor and memorialize Dr. John Chacha, the late founder of TCOH and fulfill another part of the great dream that God gave him.

THE DR. JOHN CHACHA SECONDARY SCHOOL AND INSTITUTE OF LEADERSHIP WILL BE ANOTHER POWERFUL WAY THAT WE CAN FULFILL THE MISSION OF TEAMWORK MINISTRIES...

“GENERATING TRANSFORMATION—GENUINE FLOURISHING—IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND THENCE TO THEIR COMMUNITIES. WE ARE CHANGING A VILLAGE TO REACH A NATION.”

The vision of The City of Hope (TCOH) began with our founder, Dr. John N. Chacha, and his passion for raising up Godly leaders. Born and raised in Tanzania, poverty was prevalent all around him and he yearned for something more. In 1979, Dr. Chacha received a sponsorship to go to the United States for Bible School. After completing Bible School and college, he went back to Kenya and Tanzania to seek the Lord and there he received a vision for the next phase of ministry. He returned to North America at the end of 1985 and married his college friend, Regina Horst in March of 1986. They immediately founded Teamwork Ministries International, Inc. to address the needs he saw in the church back in East Africa. Teamwork Ministries was built on Dr. Chacha’s desire to help Christians grow in their leadership and walk with God.  Over the past 25 years, Teamwork has established hundreds of Bible Schools, created cutting-edge curriculum, and published and distributed 20 of Dr. Chacha’s books.  Dr. Chacha’s dynamic teaching, writing and preaching has empowered leaders around the world as he traveled to over 20 countries.

Although Dr. Chacha experienced great success in his ministry, he felt there was an opportunity to make a greater impact by investing in the next generation of leaders. In 2007, he began to feel a call to help the people in his home village of Ntagacha, Tanzania. His love for the children became all-consuming as he made it his mission to pour his life into giving back to the people in his community. The City of Hope now includes a children’s home serving 110 orphans, Destiny Primary School and Amani Medical Center. Future construction will include a secondary school and dormitories for boarding students.

On April 16, 2015, while traveling to enroll the City of Hope's top student in one of the best secondary schools the truck in which they were travelling veered off the road and plunged into the Sondu River.  His daughter and the driver were rescued, but Dr. Chacha and the student, Dorcas Huran, died. Thousands attended the memorials held in Greensboro, NC, USA, Nakuru, Kenya and TCOH in Ntagacha, Tanzania where he was laid to rest. Although he is gone, his influence and impact on the lives of the children at The City of Hope and countless thousands around the world will never be forgotten.

Following his death, his wife of 29 years and co-founder of Teamwork Ministries, assumed the position of Executive Director of the US portion of the organization. Hudson Muhare, who had worked at TCOH for some time, was asked to run the Tanzanian operations.  Regina, along with their children, her family, Dr. Chacha’s Tanzanian family, and our board of directors are committed to continue the work of raising and educating the future leaders of Tanzania.
