“THE MIRACLES OF JESUS : RELEVANT TODAY OR NOT?”
~ by Apostle Dr. Peggy Elliott © July1st, 2019
Though the miracles of Jesus were recorded more than 2000 years ago, are they relevant today? Some would argue that they were relevant then, but that because miracles today are rarely experienced and or discussed within the body of Christ, they are no longer relevant. I believe miracles are relevant for today.
New Testament miracles help us to understand who Jesus was and what he accomplished here on earth. Though Jesus has ascended to heaven and now sits on the right side of his (Acts 2:33) father, the miracles he performed while on earth, still impact us as Believers today.
The miracles of Jesus were not fully realized while he was here on earth. The recordings of them assist us today in having a true understanding of who he was and how he was used by God to show humanness within his divinity. In the Old Testament, we see how God used prophets to perform miracles.
No miracle could be performed without the divine intervention of God. The miracles of Jesus as recorded in the New Testament did not need divine intervention worked through a human. Jesus is a third of the Triune God himself therefore, no divine intervention was necessary. Jesus was fully human AND divine. (Hebrews 2: 24-18).
A miracle is a divine event that cannot be explained by science nor human intervention. It can only be explained as being an act of God. The miracles of Jesus inspire the believer to faith in God and to the glory of His Kingdom. Once the Christian believer reads or hears about the miracles, he or she is strengthened in faith. What were the seven miracles of Jesus?
1. Turning water into wine John 2:1-11
2. Healing the royal official's son in Capernaum in John 4:46-54
3. Healing the paralytic at Bethesda in John 5:1-15
4. Feeding the 5000 in John 6:5-14
5. Jesus walking on water in John 6:16-24
6. Healing the man blind from birth in John 9:1-7
7. The raising of Lazarus in John 11:1-45
The next few months articles will look at each miracle separately as we continue to answer the question, are miracles relevant today?
