“Can Nations Be Healed?” Pt.2
~ by Apostle Dr. Peggy Elliott © November1st, 2018
“...on each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing 12 crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” Revelation 22:2
Over the past few months, I have challenged those who read my monthly column, to think about healing in unconventional ways: healing on the streets and the healing of a total congregation, for examples. This month, I want to challenge you to consider healing again in an unconventional way – the healing of nations.
Can a nation be healed?
During the last two weeks of September and the first week of October, I had the wonderful priviledge to travel and live in Nairobi, Kenya and Accra, Ghana. During my stay in Nairobi, I stayed at a 'homestay', which Americans would call an Airbnb. A husband and wife, Peter and Norah were my homestay mates. Peter's laugh was infectuous and Nora's cooking of Kenyan food was delicious. As we were getting to know one another, I decided to ask these current residents of the U.K., who are Kenyan natives, if they believed the U.K. and Kenyan needed healing as and if so, could be healed? Both are very strong, seasoned Believers.
Can a nation be healed?
Yes I do believe that just as individual people have healing needs, nations too can have healing needs and can be ministered to. I understand healing to be restoration of God's order into a person's life. This can be for a nation too. I acknowledge we live in a fallen world, which is a consequence of the sin of disobedience committed in the garden of Eden by Adam and Eve. Man's fallen nature (spiritual disorder) resulted from that. Christ is the answer. Yet 2 Chronicles 7:14 supports the idea of healing for a nation." If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land."
A nation is a people found within a defined geographical area. I believe nations can be dogged by spiritual disorders resulting from actions, inaction or decisions made by the people.
I am a Kenyan living in the United Kingdom, and there are situations that manifest themselves in both countries which I believe are indicative of land in need of healing. In the U.K., knife crime among the youth has not waned despite vigorous campaigns, with stabbings being reported almost every day. Police statistics indicate knife offences rose to a seven-year high this year. I am aware of prayer campaigns in churches across the country, the work of street pastors and prayer walks- all of which I believe have helped to prevent knife crime. But I think there's healing needed, to eliminate the growing problem.
There may be many other situations that require healing as solutions, but political correctness is a potential threat to the church in Britain. The voice of the church is these Isles that played a pivotal role in taking the gospel to all corners of the world should never be muzzled.
In Kenya, there is need for a generation that makes informed decisions, particularly in voting, rather than electing leaders based on ethnic lines. It is this kind of voting that has become the root of crippling corruption in the country. If during the electioneering period Kenyans experience ethnic tensions because (some) politicians play the tribal card not just in their campaigns but even in party alignments.
There is also a serious disorder in the church whereby people are not pointed to Christ but to individuals for miracles. What would become the foundation of such Christians? The absence of the fear of God is a disorder sticking out its neck.
The third individual I interviwed, is the manager of the homestay. His name is Don.
Absolutely "YES", Kenya/Nairobi can surely be healed.
A healed Kenya/Nairobi is a rich country full of untapped potentials and wrongly placed priorities.
Potentials range from: Human and Natural resources.
People who deserve to play certain roles in different disciplines often get themselves denied their rightful and deserving chances because there are always people who have lined up their own to satisfy their personal interests..
A healed Kenya/Nairobi will provide level playing ground to all players!
There are so much untapped natural resources, depending on the region, where the resources are located! This has always been a region considered to be on the opposing side of the government, undeveloped and will be surpressed at some point! A healed Kenya /Nairobi will ensure equality and therefore, poverty will be reduced. Employment opportunities will be available, crime rate will go down!
A healed Kenya will be free from :
-
Tribalism
-
Corruption
-
Greed
-
Poverty
-
False teachers of the Word.
Just to mention a few...
A healed Kenya will see her citizens develop health wise and they will have enough food on their table.
There will be enough money to support government projects such as road networks, employment, security structures and support to the vulnerable society. Many more questions could be asked. I could continue to interview individuals from around the world on this topic. Hopefully you get the jist that no matter how much healing is needed in any country, or continent ...they can be healed through the power of God.
"...there is healing in the leaves for nations." Rev 22:2
