Hitting The Reset Button
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your path."
Proverbs 3:5-6
Have you ever wanted to just hit a reset button and start life over like a video game? Do you feel as if a do over would help you get it right this time? Push a button and have a new life. Even cats have nine lives, right? Fortunately, there is no magic button that makes everything go the way you want it to go. If we seek God’s guidance and His will for our lives, it will be easier without feeling like we need to start this game called life over again.
Typically we try to hit that metaphorical reset button at the beginning of a new year with resolutions. We resolve, vow, or promise that we are going to do this or that. Maybe we are going to try to lose a few pounds, read the entire Bible in the next year or to try to be a better person in some shape or form. Resolutions are fine. However, think back over the years. How many of those resolutions have you kept for the long haul? The entire year? A month? Two weeks? Some we may have even broken on New Year’s Day. We have all the best intentions. We make promises to ourselves, spouses, families, and even to God. How long is this New Year’s resolution going to last?
Here’s a fresh perspective on an old tradition. Each day when we are blessed to wake up, open our eyes and take another breath is an opportunity to reset. Each day starts with unmerited favor. Each day is a chance to reset in Christ. He has given a new day. He wipes our slate clean. His forgiveness is our reset.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9
His grace is our reset. Our faith helps us to continually reset and resist future temptation as often as we need to do so. There is no need to make promises we can’t keep no matter how hard we try.
There is only one who keeps promises. The Lord Jesus is The Promise Keeper. Taste and you shall see just how He stands by His word. His word is true. The only way we can attempt to maintain our resolutions, keep our promises or make change at all is through Him. The only one who can fill the crevices our hearts and brokenness with gold to make us new and help us to reset is the Lord. Job was tried in all ways. The devil stole his health, his family, his belongs, and his friends. He didn’t make a resolution, he prayed to God. It was his faith in God that he stood on that would have him come out not just pure gold, but proved Gold. “But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10
When Ruth lost her husband, she took courage in the Lord and followed after Naomi, her mother in law, to her land to serve Her God. She didn’t make a resolution or hit a reset button, she trusted in the Lord. The Lord provided for her needs and Boaz found her while she was serving.
We can make this transformation by the renewing of our minds. We can put our trust in Him and seek His face in His Word. We can seek Him first, acknowledge Him and He will direct our path. Man, with our freewill navigating this world, cannot make fruitful, everlasting promises without first seeking Him allowing Him to light our path and guide our way.
Hit your reset button today. There is no need to wait for a new year, or even a new day. There is no need to wait for problems to disappear. There is no need to wait until you have your life in order. You can accept Jesus and reset right now. Acknowledge Him, Believe in Him and Confess that He is Lord of your life. Inhale His fresh anointing deeply, exhale and be free.
Now what? Is life going to be perfect? No! Will each day be easy? No! Isn’t hitting a reset button supposed to make all things good? It would seem that way. You will find all the answers to your questions in the Bible. With faith in Jesus, you’ll be surprised just how much easier life becomes. Leaning on His wisdom and depending on His spirit to guide you will definitely lighten any heavy load in your life.
Sure, by all means, make some goals. Make some goals that are realistic and attainable. Start small and work toward greater heights. Use short intervals, make accomplishments and then create new goals. Seek Him for vision. Write the vision and make it plain. Habakkuk 2:2
When you wake up each day, breathe in deeply the freshness of His reset for your life. Inhale the courage and faith to keep working toward your goals. Pray that your human desires, your freewill, will line up with His will and plan that God has ordered for your life. Goals directed by the Father are a fresh anointing upon your life. Let each day, each breath be a reset.

Prayer: Lord, My Father, I come before you humbly seeking your face. Lord, fill me with your wisdom through your spirit. I acknowledge that you are Lord. I believe that you gave your life for my sin, and that you have risen. I confess that I am a sinner and I need you in my life. Help me Lord to seek your wisdom. In this new year, teach me to rely less on myself, and instead, to rely on you to help me reset my life according to your will. Give me the courage to stand on your word as I allow you to guide my steps. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Memory Verse: Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
